Our Story & Heritage

A Heritage of Faith, Community & Warm Welcome

CONCORD BAPTIST CHURCH is located in Central Virginia, a short ten-minute drive from King’s Dominion and Meadow Event Park (between I-95 and Highway 301).

Established in 1841, the church has been a vital part of the social and spiritual fabric of the Frog Level community throughout much of America’s history. Its rural setting provides the backdrop for the traditional values and deep spirituality of families who have lived and worked here for generations.

Known as “the friendly church,” Concord welcomes visitors and folks moving to the area with open arms and a Christ-like spirit.

The Authority of Scripture

We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God. It is our supreme and final authority in all matters of Christian doctrine, faith, and daily living.

Salvation by Grace through Faith

Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace received through personal faith in Jesus Christ alone, whose death on the Cross and bodily resurrection provided the only atonement for sin.

The Triune God & Lordship of Christ

We believe in one God eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, our living Lord and Savior.

The Church & Ordinances

The local church is a body of baptized believers united for worship, fellowship, discipleship, and service. We practice two New Testament ordinances: Believer’s Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper.

Rev. Michael Gunter

Senior Pastor

Pastor Michael Gunter began his ministry at Concord Baptist Church on December 1, 2022. Michael surrendered to God’s call to the Gospel ministry in 1989 and was ordained in 1993. Over more than three decades of faithful pastoral service, he has led congregations with passion for expository biblical preaching and compassionate pastoral care.

A native of Chesterfield, Virginia, Michael earned a Master of Ministry Degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Janet, have been married since 1980 and are blessed with two grown daughters, Megan and Michelle, and a grandson, Carter. Michael has a deep heart for rural church ministry, discipleship, and ministering to families throughout Caroline County.

Amanda Fletcher

Director of Worship Arts

Amanda joined the Concord staff in January 2021, bringing vibrant energy, musical excellence, and deep devotion to our music ministry. She leads our Sunday morning blended worship, blending cherished traditional hymns with uplifting modern contemporary praise songs.

Amanda directs the Adult Choir, coordinates the Praise Team, and leads Wednesday night rehearsals. She loves creating meaningful worship experiences where every believer can engage their heart and mind in praise to Almighty God.

Children & Youth

Kendall Reid

Director of Children & Youth Ministries

Kendall finds great joy in planning Children’s Church, leading our Youth Group, and organizing events that bring the Concord church family and community together. She is passionate about helping children and youth grow in their faith and develop a deep, lasting love for our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Kendall is a wife and the mother of two fearfully and wonderfully made daughters. She enjoys connecting with other moms, encouraging them in the joys and challenges of raising children with a Christ-centered worldview.

What To Expect on Sunday Morning

Visiting a new church can be intimidating. Here is everything you need to know so you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.

Easy Parking & Arrival

Concord is located at 15625 Concord Rd in Ruther Glen (Frog Level). We have ample free parking right next to the historic sanctuary and fellowship hall with designated accessible spaces near the entrance.

Warm, Friendly Atmosphere

Our typical Sunday attendance is around 75 worshippers. We are known across Caroline County as “the friendly church” — you will be greeted with authentic smiles, handshakes, and genuine hospitality.

Blended Worship Music

Our music ministry combines timeless, cherished hymns of the faith with uplifting modern praise and worship choruses led by our Worship Arts Director, Amanda Fletcher, and church pianist David Zaronas.

Come As You Are

There is no dress code at Concord. You will see folks in jeans, khakis, suits, dresses, and casual attire. We care about you, not what you wear — please come in whatever makes you comfortable!

No Pressure, No Spotlights

We will not put you on the spot, ask you to stand up, or single you out during the service. You are our honored guest, and we want you to worship peacefully at your own pace.

No Expectation to Give

While we take an offering as an act of worship for our church members, as a guest you are never expected to contribute. Please simply pass the offering plate along with our blessing.

Nursery & Children's Church

We provide a safe, loving nursery for infants and toddlers (ages 0–5) and an engaging Children's Church for kids (K–5) led by Kendall Reid during the 11:00 AM worship service.

Biblical, Christ-Centered Preaching

Pastor Michael Gunter preaches practical, expository messages straight from the Bible that connect timeless biblical truth to our everyday lives and challenges.

Historic Setting & Fellowship

Worship takes place in our picturesque 1857 Greek Revival sanctuary. After service, join us in the fellowship hall to meet Pastor Michael, our staff, and friendly members.
